Getting Published in Magazines will Turbo Charge Your Photography Business

Why do you know the names of certain photographers around the world?  It is because their work has been published in the magazines you read and the books you buy.  Naturally, their names  and their work is engrained in your mind.

Realistically, there are many incredible photographers in the world who are simply "undiscovered."  Their work is as good (and sometimes better) than the people whose names and images grace the pages of the local, national, and international magazines that you thumb through and read.

Recently, a group of photographers sat in on a conference by a nationally published husband and wife photography team. The biggest reason their wedding prices had risen sharply was because they purposely submitted their work to magazines and publications.  The editors of those magazines chose to feature their images, forever giving them the ability to advertise that they are published photographers.  Instantly, it separated their work from the pack allowing them to triple their wedding rates.

Being published is an endorsement. It is like someone else saying, "this photographer is an expert. Just look at their work."

It stands to reason that the best and quickest way to give yourself a pay raise as a professional wedding and event photographer would be to get yourself published in magazines.  Not only that, it will lend instant credibility to your work as a professional, give you great selling tools and offer you a third party professional referral simply by opening a magazine and showing potential clients.

Imagine your potential bride's expressions at your first meeting when you pull out a magazine and show them your work.

How do you find the magazines, the editors and their submission processes?

The biggest stumbling block we have seen for photographers who want to be published is that they don't spend the time to find out where to be published.  They see two or three mags on the shelves at the book store and figure that they will never get into those.  They may try once or twice, never get featured and then give up.

Getting published takes two things.  Knowledge of which magazines are accepting photography and a bit of tenacity.  We provide the first by ordering the list of top magazines.  We take the work out of identifying the magazines that are actively seeking new and fresh photography for their publications.

Our list of magazines includes publications from all over the English speaking world.  Submit your weddings to one or all of them.  There are over 85 featured publications and the list is growing.  (you will receive free updates after your order)

The list includes:

  1. The names of the publications
  2. The URL of the magazine, The contact person in charge of wedding photography submissions along with their email address in some cases   (Some magazines don't have this information publicly available),
  3. Other contact information such as phone numbers and general inquiry email addresses.

We spent almost 50 hours putting together this list for ourselves and thought that we would share it.  It has helped us tremendously and WILL help you too.

Getting published in magazines as a photographer

"Of the millions of weddings that take place each year, there is only a limited number of weddings featured in the magazines.  Each magazine has their own particular protocol for submission"

Publishing your photography in magazines

"Editors and art directors are surprisingly open minded about new talent. After all, what they are after are the best shots available for their publication. The last thing that they want is to open a competitors magazine and find that the photographs leave theirs behind."
